After more than 125 years in Oka, the Trappists are preparing to leave their monastery. They are more than 28 and half are 75 years old. Before their departure, the monks agreed to share their daily lives.
The camera accompanies them in the orchard, in the cellar or in the garden, in prayer to the chapel, in the chiaroscuro of a corridor or the silence of the cellar of the monastery. It is through these images and the testimony of monks that we discover the history of the community.
These monks farmers were also men of science and education. With them, Quebec has tasted his first cheese, but it has made great strides. The Agricultural Institute of Oka, that they have founded and led for more than 60 years, has formed our first generation of agronomists and veterinarians. There, some of our greatest scientists have found their vocation.
This film is a part of the legacy of the Oka Trappists.
